3 Colossal Mistakes Personal Brands Make When Creating a Website.

Are You Going About It All Wrong?
Wanting a profitable website doesn’t make you unique.
Actually creating one does.
I'm going to expose 3 colossal mistakes personal brands make when creating a website.

Warning: I'm going to rip them off like a band aid. It may hurt. But you'll be skipping like a care-free kindergartener if you’ll take my advice.

Colossal Mistake #1

Creating ANY Website Is A Challenge.

Techie stuff.
Website builder learning curves.
Figuring out what to put on your website.

Yuck!

But…Eventually, Anybody Can Figure That Stuff Out.
And That’s The Problem.

To create a thriving personal brand website, you've got to do more than get a website up.

Think about it like this…

If I gave 100 consultants, speakers, and coaches a bike frame, 2 flat tires, an air pump, and a wrench; then I said, “meet me 1 mile down the road for a BIG prize"…sooner or later most would figure it out.

They'd manage to get the two tires on the bike frame, air them up, and start peddling.

Now imagine this…

I had 5 killer clients with me a mile up the road. Each one ready to buy—to hire a consultant, coach, or speaker that day.

They're staring at 72 sweaty, disheveled candidates crowded around them. Who do they choose?

That's what it's like to get over the initial hurdles of creating a website:
  • Navigating the techie stuff
  • Taming the website builder
  • Plugging some words into blocks on a template

Remember what we said…

Eventually most anyone can figure it out…or pay some chump to do it for them. Just like the bike analogy, having a personal brand website just puts you in the herd of a 1000 other cows.

Just “Getting” A Website Up Won’t Help You Thrive

Colossal Mistake #2

Knock this thing out.

I see this a lot. “Once I hire out the techie stuff, the rest is a walk in the park." Not so fast.

Consider Iron Mike Tyson…

He famously said, “Everyone's got a plan till they get punched in the mouth!"
Creating a profitable website is a dogfight.

Want to know why?…

It's where the rubber meets the road.
It's where you are forced to make a TON of decisions.
It's where you go from hypothetical to reality. From practice training to the fight.

Most marketing and branding frameworks, courses, and books help you with theory. But creating a profitable website makes you hop in the ring and execute:
  • Branding
  • Messaging
  • Layout
  • Strategy
  • …and just about everything else.
Sorry to burst any bubbles. But profitable websites are hard work.
COLOSSAL MISTAKE NUMBER 2 EXPOSED…

More often than not, the profitable website doesn’t get knocked out. You do.

Colossal Mistake #3

My new website will help my personal brand and business grow.

New websites don't make any more money than old websites simply because they're new. Ever bought something new and found out it was a dud? Me too!

Customers don't care how new your website is or how much you spent on it. There's no new car sticker-price you can leave on the windshield of your website.

Nowadays, when somebody tells me, “I need a new website"…

Guess what my next question is?…

Why? Why do you need a new website? (I try not to sound snarky…but no promises.)

I usually get back generic talk. All about how old it is. How it doesn't work. How it needs updating, bad.

You don't need a new website for your personal brand.
You need a website that works!

I see too many personal brands squandering potential, compensating, and overworking to make-up for their lackluster website.

A profitable personal brand website can help you make money while you're doing other things, like:
  • mowing the grass
  • enjoying your favorite hobby
  • or trouncing your family in the game of Life

A website won't grow your personal brand.
A website that converts and sells what you want to get paid for DOES!

The Colossal Conclusion

Every personal brand wants a profitable website.

You already know how essential your website is to your business.

But most personal brands aren't willing to take ownership of creating a profitable website. Because…

There are no top-secret shortcuts. There's no magic blue pill.

Profitable personal brand websites come from the marriage of two things:
  1. the right technology, website builder, and layout
    Paired with…
  2. with the right customer, unique position in the market, and business strategy.

When those come together like a great marriage, it's magic. Profits can multiply like rabbits.

I happen to love helping personal brands marry those two pieces so they can build a thriving, life-giving brand.
